Sokka paced in front of his new prospective soldier. A set of green eyes looked up at him with reverence and awe.
"Today," he began, "I am going to introduce you to the single most important weapon you will ever learn to use. It's more important than a sword, more versatile than bending, and, most importantly, will always come back to you." He unsheathed his weapon and held it at arm's length.
"This is your boomerang."
The soldier grinned at him. "You are right to be enamoured of it." He tilted the weapon to allow the light to catch it at all angles. "No other weapon in the world can match the versatility of the boomerang. You throw it, and it will come back to you – after knocking a few bad guys' heads around, naturally." The soldier giggled; Sokka chose to ignore it. "You can use it in short range combat as well. The sharpened edges are excellent for use as a blade, and the ends can be used as a blunt object." He pointed to each part of the weapon as he explained it.
He faced his recruit. "Most importantly – you must never, ever, ever take your boomerang for granted. It is entirely possible that it will one day save your life. Save the life of someone you love..." His voice trailed off as old memories resurfaced – memories of Fire Nation soldiers, of crashing airships, thick smoke, broken limbs, and a life hanging by no more than a sweaty hand.
Sokka clutched his boomerang as his thoughts returned to the present. "This boomerang," he explained, "is very special to me. My father gave it to me when I was very young. It saved my life more times than I care to count. The last time it saved me, I thought I'd lost it forever." A small smile played on his lips. "A very resourceful earthbender found it buried in mud and who knows what else, and gave it back to me."
He took a deep breath and allowed himself one last look at Boomerang. "And now, I want you to have it."
The soldier reached out with unabashed eagerness. Sokka pulled back a few inches, unsure if this was really what he wanted to do. With a heavy sigh, he released his weapon to a new pair of hands.
"Just do me one favour, okay? Don't tell your mother I gave that to you. I'd never hear the end of it."
His daughter looked at him and babbled incoherently. "Happy Birthday, Kah Li," he whispered, and placed a kiss on her forehead.
Kah Li hugged Boomerang tight to her chest. She was only two years old, but there was no denying that she was her father's daughter.

Tokka Week 4 - Boomerang!
"If you love someone, let them go. If they return, they will be forever yours," Uncle Iroh mused in his tea shop in Ba Sing Se. Ozai had been defeated, the war was over, Zuko had become the new Fire Lord, and they were all at the Jasmine Dragon celebrating their victory. Sokka had just finished their team portrait and Toph was now sitting back, listening to his interactions with Suki. When they kissed Toph turned her head to look away even if she couldn't actually see them. Iroh noticed her reaction from where he was sitting next to her. It was what triggered his statement, which he had spoken just loud

Tokka Week: Secrets
Sokka had half a dozen reasons why they should leave the Fire Nation on the next morning's ferry and go back to Toph's place. First, it was closer to where Aang was, in case they had to ride off to the rescue for some reason. Second, it wasn't like they would get to spend any more time with Zuko, Mai, or little Lu Ten. Zuko was too busy conferring with his advisers, as usual, and Mai and the baby were involved in all sorts of Fire Nation heir ceremonies. Third, hanging around here they would just get in trouble. (Zuko loved when they visited, but after the third time Toph and Sokka got drunk, broke into the stables and set all the ostrich hor

Kataang Week Day 7 -Continued...-
LES1: Well, here it is. The final day of Kataang Week. The main theme of this particular story is something that I think a good portion of the fandom has forgotten with The Legend of Korra: that even though Aang has passed and Kataang is not in the series, Kataang lives forever. As I've always said, no matter how much or how little they show of Aang and Katara's relationship in flashback in Korra, even if they show none at all, I will be happy in the knowledge that they were happily married for so long. And, without further ado, here is the final day!
The day has come when our Aang and Katara have children, many cute family moments. Or the d

Tokka Week 4 - Boomerang
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Kah Li makes another appearance! (For more on her, see here: [link] and here: [link]) If you stay tuned for the end of the week, she's scheduled to make another appearance - along with her brothers.
What would Toph's reaction be to Sokka giving their two-year-old daughter a sharp pointy object to play with? It would be fun to watch at any rate.
